SEC’s New Standards May Pave Way for Crypto ETPs Expansion
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is preparing to introduce generic listing standards for cryptocurrency exchange-traded products, according to Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan. The move could streamline regulatory approvals for spot crypto ETPs as early as October, reducing barriers that have historically slowed their launch.
Current ETP approval processes remain bogged down by SEC scrutiny and crypto market complexities. Uniform standards would mark a turning point, enabling broader product offerings and fostering competition among issuers. Institutional and retail demand for crypto exposure through regulated vehicles continues to grow.
